ConjuGon, Inc. is focused on developing fundamentally new products to eliminate bacterial infections. ConjuGon was founded in 2001, to develop and commercialize a novel, conjugation-based antibacterial technology discovered at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The primary clinical purpose of products based on this technology will be to prevent and eliminate antibiotic-resistant, bacterial infections of the skin and soft tissues including traumatic injury, surgical, and burn wounds. The company has also in-licensed from Baylor University, an innovative technology to prevent catheter-associated urinary tract infections. Presently, ConjuGon performs most of its Research and Development operations at its corporate headquarters in Madison, WI and contracts with leading pharmaceutical, manufacturing, clinical research and regulatory experts nationwide to advance its products.
To date, ConjuGon has raised ~$15 million in equity financing and grants, including more than $5 million from the U.S. Department of Defense.
Management and Board of Directors
Steven R. Watt, Ph.D., Chief Operating Officer
Dr. Watt has been with ConjuGon since 2006. Previous to joining ConjuGon, he held senior management positions as Director of Cell Biology & Transgenesis at Infigen, Inc. and as Director of Government Programs at OpGen, Inc. He received a B.Sc. and Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Microbiology from the University of Guelph, Canada followed by a post-doctoral position at the University of Texas, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. Dr. Watt has more than 15 years experience in the development of novel biologics/pharmaceuticals for various diseases and infections.
Gary Greenwood, President and Chairman
Mr. Greenwood currently serves as President of ConjuGon and Chairman of the Board of Directors. Mr. Greenwood is a co-founder and partner of the private investment firm Rosetta Partners LLC, based in Lake Forest, Illinois. Mr. Greenwood deals exclusively in public and private early- to mid-stage biotechnology companies.
Richard R. Burgess, Ph.D., Director
Dr. Burgess is a co-founder of ConjuGon and serves on its Board of Directors. He is a fellow of both the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the American Academy of Microbiology and was a founding director of the University of Wisconsin Biotechnology Center. Dr. Burgess serves on a number of boards of biotechnology and biomedical investment companies.
Anthony Clemento Jr., Director
Mr. Clemento is the founding member of A. Clemento and Associates, LLC a pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical consulting company and currently holds an Adjunct Professor appointment from the School of Medicine and Public Health, University of Wisconsin-Madison, in the Master of Science in Biotechnology Program. Mr. Clemento has nearly 40 years of drug development and regulatory affairs experience with several Fortune 500 companies.
Gary A. Noskin, M.D.
Dr. Noskin is a Professor in Medicine-Infectious Diseases and The Institute for Healthcare Studies at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, as well as Director of the Northwestern Epicenter (a CDC-sponsered Prevention Epicenter) and the Northwestern Center for Patient Safety. At Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Dr. Noskin serves as the Medical Director of Healthcare Epidemiology and Quality, is Chairman of the Medication Safety, the Medical Staff Quality Management and the Patient Safety Committees, and is a member of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics and the Clinical Care Evaluation Committees. He also serves on the board of Directors for Northwestern Memorial Home Health Services. Dr. Noskin completed an internship, residency, and fellowship in infectious diseases at Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicene in Chicagoland and is board certified in internal medicine and infectious diseases. Dr Noskin was selected by his peers to be included in the current editions of "the Best Doctors in America" and "The Best Doctors in Chicago". He is a member of numerous professional organizations and committees and is a Fellow of the Infectious Diseases Society of America and the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America.
Alicia Loffler, Ph.D., Director
Dr. Loffler is Associate Vice President and Executive Director of the Innovation and New Ventures Office at Northwestern University, Chicago and is a faculty member of the Kellogg School of Management. Previously, Dr. Loffler was Director of the Kellogg Center for Biotechnology Management, an educational and research organization focused on management of the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and medical device sectors. Dr. Loffler has been involved in multiple biotech start-ups, serves as advisor to many external organizations including venture capital firms and biotechnology/biopharmaceutical institutes, and speaks and consults extensively with firms, universities, and governments worldwide.
Carl Spalding, Director
Mr. Spalding is past President and Chief Operating Officer of PAREXEL, a publicly-traded, $500 million+ US-based CRO and biopharmaceutical outsourcing company. While at PAREXEL, Mr. Spalding oversaw worldwide business operations for strategic business units, administrative functions and quality management for an organization of 5000+ employees in 35 worldwide locations. Prior to joining PAREXEL, Mr. Spalding held senior positions at major healthcare companies including Cardinal Health, Abbott Laboratories (Ross Products Division), and Johnson & Johnson.
